FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW DO I GET TO YOUR FACILITY?

We are located at 650 Byrd Mountain Lane, Canton, GA 30114. We are a convenient 45-minute drive from Atlanta, and 30 minutes from most locations in the North Metro area.

To get to camp: After turning on to Byrd Mountain Lane from Lower Burris Rd, follow it until it ends at the metal gate. Go through the gate and bear right at the fork. Left will take you to the City of Waleska water tower. Go up to the top of the hill until you see the white farmhouse. Bear right around the house and make a left where the gravel splits. Drive across the backyard until you reach the entrance to the woods road. Follow the woods road for approximately .25mi until it splits. Park at the fork, and camp will be up the hill on your left.

We kindly request that when driving around the house that you please stay on the gravel and off the grass, and that when you park, please don’t block the driveway. 24hr access is required for instructors, and potential emergency egress.

DO YOU OFFER OVERNIGHT CAMPING?

Yes. If you’ve got a long drive and would like to stay the night before a class the next day, we’re more than happy to host you. Our all-inclusive overnight camping fee is $25 for up to two people, with kids being an additional $10 each. This includes dinner and a tent site. When you register for the course, simply add the overnight camping option to your cart and you’re good to go.

WHAT ARE YOUR FACILITIES LIKE?

We offer primitive camping, meaning no electricity, running water, or RV hookups. We do have a privy (outhouse), which is quite nice. (Yes, we keep TP and wipes on hand.) We also keep potable water on hand for cooking, cleaning, and drinking. And while we do not have RV hookups, we do have flat spots to park to set up your small camper or overland rig. We also start all of our classes under a covered pavilion, so don’t worry about staying dry!

MAY I BRING A FIREARM?

Yes, with stipulations. Firearms are welcome (all of our instructors are armed), however, we ask that you carry legally and responsibly and not draw your weapon unless the need arises. We also ask that if you drink, put your guns away. We take gun safety very seriously. Irresponsible handling of firearms will result in your removal from the course, with no refund.

MAY I BRING ALCOHOL/TOBACCO?

Yes, with stipulations. If you choose to bring alcohol to drink around the campfire, such as a bottle of wine or whiskey or beer in a cooler, we only ask that you please exercise moderation, and not drink during class time. If you smoke or dip, please be respectful of the land and don’t leave wads of dip or cigarette butts everywhere. Hard drugs are not allowed.

MAY I BRING MY DOG?

Well-behaved dogs are a blessing, and always welcome. However, if your dog is poorly trained and disciplined, can’t get along with other dogs, isn’t safe around kids, steals food, or barks constantly and is disruptive to the class, you will be asked to keep it in your vehicle or tie it out at a distance for the duration of class.

MAY I BRING MY KIDS?

Yes. At SARCRAFT, we consider ourselves a family-friendly environment. Our only current family-focused offering is Sunday Afternoon Bushcraft; however, you may bring your kids to our 1-day classes, but they must be at least 12 years of age. For our overnight and weekend classes, the minimum age of participation is 16.

WHAT IF I DON'T HAVE GEAR?

For our 1/2 day and 1-day courses, we are happy to provide knives, saws, axes, ferro rods, and other woods tools and miscellaneous gear at no extra charge. At this time, we don’t have the capacity to provide tents, pads, sleeping bags, packs, etc. for overnight and weekend camping.

HOW LONG DO YOUR COURSES LAST?

Our ½ day courses are five hours, from 2pm-7pm. Our 1-day courses are from 9am-7pm. For our weekend courses, the property gates open at 6pm on Friday night and class generally ends at 1pm Sunday afternoon unless otherwise noted.

CAN I PAY AT THE DOOR?

No. We need a solid head count at least 48hrs before class time in order to plan meals, gather the required supplies and materials, etc. in order to create the best experience possible.

WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?

Upon signing up for a SARCRAFT class, you have from your time of purchase until 48 hours before the class to cancel and receive a full refund. Any cancellations past the 48-hour threshold will be ineligible for refunds, however, you may apply your balance towards a future course. If you choose to apply the balance to a future course, a $25 rescheduling fee will apply ($10 for Sunday Afternoon Sessions classes). This helps offset the cost of class supplies and materials that were purchased for you. Balances are valid for one calendar year after initial registration, after that, they will be considered forfeit. Cancellations due to serious emergencies or extenuating circumstances (death in the family, hospitalization, etc.) will be handled on a case by case basis.

If it is necessary for SARCRAFT to cancel a class which you have registered for, we will notify you by phone and email as soon as possible. Upon contact please specify if you would prefer a full refund or course credit towards another class. If SARCRAFT cancels a class, the rescheduling fee does not apply to your balance. Please note: SARCRAFT is not responsible for travel expenses or airline ticket expenses if a class is canceled.

WHAT IS YOUR COVID-19 POLICY?

At SARCRAFT, we believe in personal freedom, responsibility, and common sense. We do not require proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test, nor will we ever inquire about vaccination status. Your personal medical decisions are none of our business. We also do not require masks, nor will they be provided. If you choose to wear a mask, feel free to do so. Hand sanitizer is, and has always been, freely available. What we will ask is that if you have tested positive within ten days of class, feel sick, are showing symptoms, or have been recently exposed to someone with COVID, that you not come to class. We will issue a full refund or course credit, no questions asked.

All of our classes are small, and all are held outdoors. The likelihood of a droplet-borne virus spreading in these conditions is very low. Since March 2020, we have hosted dozens of classes with hundreds of students in attendance, and we have had zero cases of COVID-19 traced back to us. We believe that face-to-face personal connection is vital, and have every intention of continuing to teach in-person classes regardless of current events.
